Stunning photos capture ‘ice house’ on Lake Ontario after 5 days of freezing winds

You may want to keep any complaints about your drafty house, or frustrations about defrosting the car to yourself from here on out.

A photographer in New York State captured stunning images of a home entirely encased in ice over the weekend, after five days of icy winds along Lake Ontario battered the area.

Photographs of the so-called “Ice House” show a thick layer of icicles covering the home and its lake-front property; a scene which photographer John Kucko described as “apocalyptic.” In fact, since his photos of the ice-covered house went viral, Kucko has been forced to upload video of the property to prove he didn’t Photoshop the scene.

“Amazed at how many people think I sprayed foam on the place, too funny. Our area here in WNY (western New York) was pummeled by violent wind the last few days, over 160,000 lost power–some still don’t have it,” the photographer wrote on Facebook.

Residents of Newfoundland and Labrador was also hit by a violent wind storm over the weekend. Environment Canada said the storm, which produced wind gusts up to 158 km/h, was the strongest to hit the province in more than a decade.

Tens of thousands of residents lost power as a result of the storm, which caused major damage to buildings in the area.
