The Vauxhall and District Regional Water Plant was back to operating at full capacity Friday evening.
At 5:30 p.m. an Alberta emergency alert explained operations were back to normal.
“The Vauxhall and District Regional Water Plant is now operating at full capacity. Truck fills are once again open in the Hamlet of Hays, Hamlet of Enchant, and the Town of Vauxhall.
“We thank you for your patience and understanding during this critical situation. The water supply continues to be safe.”
Residents of three communities in southern Alberta were asked to conserve water Thursday after a power surge damaged the treatment plant.
“Due to a power surge, damage has occurred to critical electronic equipment within the Vauxhall Water Treatment Plant stopping the production of drinking water which limits the availability of water,” an Alberta emergency alert Thursday at 7:30 p.m. explained.
The incident meant there was a shortage of drinking water in the Town of Vauxhall, Hamlet of Hays and the Hamlet of Enchant. Water was safe to consume but residents were being asked to limit use “for emergencies only.”
At 10:50, the following update was issued:
“The Vauxhall Water plant is now operating and is producing water. The Vauxhall water distribution network will be shut off between approximately 11 p.m. and 1 a.m. in order for maintenance to be conducted. Residents are asked to continue to conserve water. A further update will be provided to residents early Friday morning. The water supply remains safe to consume.”
By 3:20 p.m. on Friday, conditions had improved.
“The Vauxhall water plant is now running under supervised operations conditions,” an update read. “Work continues to resolve electronic issues at the water plant. Residents are asked to continue to conserve water including no outside watering and please limit use within homes and businesses. Truck fills remain closed in Hays, Enchant, and Vauxhall. The water supply remains safe to consume.”
Taber is about 50 kilometres east of Lethbridge.
