Officials at the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) are warning residents to stay clear of low-lying areas, rivers, streams and shorelines due to rising water levels on Friday.
The Greater Toronto Area has already received between 20 to 40 millimetres of rain in the early morning hours and the precipitation is expected to continue throughout the day.
“Water levels within TRCA’s watercourses are rising due to the rainfall and there is the potential that water levels will exceed its riverbanks resulting in riverine flooding,” the TRCS said in its flood watch advisory.
The public is encouraged to avoid all bodies of water and to keep children and pets away from low-lying areas.
Transportation Delays
Flash flooding from last night’s rain caused partial flooding on the Richmond Hill GO Train line.
A number delays were reported Friday morning on the Gormley GO to Union Station trains.
GO Transit officials said routes had to be diverted causing 30 to 45 minutes of delays for the morning commute.
Road Closures
The Bayview Avenue Extension between River Street and King Street remains closed due to the rain accumulation.
