Class 1 water restriction remains in effect in Wetaskiwin

A Class 1 water restriction remains in effect in Wetaskiwin.

The City of Wetaskiwin declared a Stage 1 water restriction Thursday, July 14, after discovering contamination in the Central Station reservoir.

The station was isolated from the water distribution system to keep the water supply safe for consumption.

This incident was reported to Alberta Environment & Parks, and all City-supplied water remains safe for consumption.

“This contamination was quickly addressed by Aquatera personnel, and it is anticipated the water restriction will only be required for a short amount of time,” reads a press release.

To reduce strain on the remaining operational reservoir at Garden Meadows while this contamination is being addressed, residents are asked to follow Stage 1 water restriction guidelines until further notice.

The restriction remains in place as of Monday at 4 p.m. a further update will be announced on or before Wednesday at 4 p.m. through the City’s website and social media channels.

The Stage 1 restrictions are as follows:

Residential Lawn Watering: Even-numbered addresses: Wednesdays and Saturdays between 4 a.m. – 9 a.m. Odd-numbered addresses: Thursdays and Sundays between 4 a.m. – 9 a.m.

Non-Residential Lawn Watering Even-numbered addresses: Mondays and Thursdays between 1 a.m. – 6 a.m. Odd-numbered addresses: Thursdays and Fridays between 1 a.m. – 6 a.m.

Shrubs, Plants, Trees: Both residential and non-residential can water any day of the week, however, watering can only occur between 4 a.m. – 9 a.m. or 8 p.m. – 11 p.m.  Watering with a spring-loaded shut-off nozzle can occur anytime.

Vegetable Gardens: Water any time (no change)

Car, Boat, & House Washing: Even-numbered addresses: Wednesdays and Saturdays. Odd-numbered addresses: Thursdays and Sundays. Watering with a spring-loaded shut-off nozzle can occur anytime.

Surface & Power Washing: Even-numbered addresses: Wednesdays and Saturdays. Odd-numbered addresses: Thursdays and Sundays. Watering with a spring-loaded shut-off nozzle can occur anytime.
